Integrating ST60+ instruments to eS78 Chartplotter via Seatalk Conversion Kit

I am planning my installation of a new eS78 Chartplotter.  I want to connect my existing ST60+ instruments to the new plotter using a Seatalk to Seatalk ng conversion kit.  I am unclear about the power connections.  The conversion kit provides for a power connection and the eS78 has it's own power connection cable.  Should I connect power to both, or just to one or the other.  I assume that I should remove the existing power connection that is currently connected to the ST60+ instruments??  Is the power provided from the conversion kit connection?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Welcome to the Raymarine Technical Forum Michael,

Raymarine's a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs are neither designed to provide power to a SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone, nor are they designed to be powered from a SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 backbone.  These MFDs are designed to be powered via the MFD's power cable.

Any SeaTalk instruments, autopilot components, GPS sensors, and chartplotters featuring a 1st generation SeaTalk interface which do not additionally feature a SeaTalkng interface (ex. ST40/60 Instrument Displays, ST6002, S2G, Wireless AP Controller, Raystar 125 GPS Sensor, etc.) should be interfaced to one another, in any order, using standard SeaTalk cable.  SeaTalk cables can be joined using D244 SeaTalk Junction Blocks, splices, marine grade terminal strips, or R55006 SeaTalk Auxiliary Junction Boxes.  SeaTalk cable is available in 15", 1m, 3m, 5m, and 9m lengths (D230, D284, D285, D286, and D287 respectively).  This method of interfacing is referred to as a SeaTalk bus.  Each SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter will support a SeaTalk bus of up to five SeaTalk devices.  Should your present SeaTalk bus consist of more than five SeaTalk devices, then it will need to be divided into smaller busses including no more than five SeaTalk devices.  Each bus will in turn be connected to the yellow SeaTalk port of a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter.  The SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converters may be interfaced to one another via appropriate length of SeaTalkng Backbone Cable.  The SeaTalk bus will need to be branched or extended and connected to the yellow (SeaTalk) port of a E22158 SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter Kit which has been upgraded with v1.21 or later SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter software.  The Data Master a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD will in turn be interfaced to a white SeaTalkng spur port of one of the SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter or other SeaTalkng port within the SeaTalkng backbone using an appropriate length of SeaTalkng Spur Cable ((400mm (A06038), 1m (A06039), 3m (A06040), 5m (A06041)).  The SeaTalk bus will be disconnected from its present power source.  The SeaTalk bus will instead be powered via the SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter.  One of the supplied SeaTalkng Power Cables will be connected to a 12VDC power circuit and will be interfaced to one of the white SeaTalkng spur ports of a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter (use a spur port that is at the approximate midpoint of the LEN load of the backbone).  In larger systems, the SeaTalkng Power Cable will be interfaced to a spur port which is located at the approximate midpoint of the backbone's LEN load.  Finally, the supplied SeaTalkng Termination Plugs will need to be installed in the remaining two blue SeaTalkng backbone ports of the ST-STng Converter Kits or backbone sockets forming the two extreme ends of the backbone.


Thia may be a bit late,but I'll try.

I just installed the eS78 MFD with the Quantum (wireless) radar, which I want to use with my existing ST60 series instruments. With my old radar, they interfaced fine, but with the new connections, they do not. I have the converter kit, but no configuration worked. I ended up splicing the B/W interface wire to my Graphic Display (GD), which repeats cockpit instrument data for autopilot, wind, speed, and depth, and which has its own power to one of its ST ports.When I used the converter wiring, the GD would not display cockpit data, and autopilot control indicated "SEATALK FAIL."

The B/W wire now runs from the STng port on the eS78 to the GD, with a spliced branch to the cockpit array. The GD also is connected to my GPS antenna. The eS78 is working fine in chart and radar mode, but it will not discover and display my ST60 instrument readouts, which now are displayed fine on the GD. BUT, not on the eS78?!?!

Can you please give me some advice as to what I'm doing wrong, and how I can make the system work?
